Relive Studio

Building a stable, high-performance UHD multi-cam workflow — from edit to backup to archive — on QNAP All-Flash storage.

Since adopting the QNAP TS-h1290FX, we've maintained stable performance even when several editors work on UHD multi-cam projects at the same time — and we can now run everything from editing to backup in a single workflow.

About Relive Studio

Relive Studio is a broadcast and digital content production company specializing in high-quality, K-POP-based UHD content. Its productions include KBS World TV programs such as My Day Trip, GOD THE SPOT, RESCENE MV Dream, IDOL Booth, and Stage W alongside concerts, live content, and brand films. The studio works primarily with UHD raw and log multi-cam footage and finishes its projects in HDR.

The customer uses these solutions

Challenges

As Relive Studio's projects grew in scale and increasingly ran in parallel, its reliance on standard DAS and external storage quickly became a bottleneck. The studio's shoots are demanding by nature: for the 2025 “KBS Stage W for Chungnam” K-Pop concert in Gwanghwamun, the team ran a UHD 59.94fps multi-cam setup with 23 Sony cameras (broadcast relay and ENG).

In post-production, editors work with a wide range of high-resolution codecs — X-OCN (Venice 2, Burano), Apple ProRes 422 HQ (HDC relay cameras), Cinema DNG (DJI Inspire 3), and Slog3 MXF (FX6) — editing them as multi-cam in DaVinci Resolve and color grading (DI) in Dolby Vision HDR. This workflow surfaced two clear problems:

  • Performance degradation under collaboration: the existing storage slowed down whenever multiple editors worked at the same time.
  • No systematic archive: after each project wrapped, large volumes of data needed to be backed up safely and retained for the long term.

Solution

To handle UHD multi-cam editing and DI reliably, Relive Studio built its storage backbone on QNAP: one TS-h1290FX, one TVS-h874T paired with two TL-D800C expansion enclosures, and a TBS-574TX for fieldwork. The deciding factors were All-Flash performance combined with both Thunderbolt and network connectivity, which together made a fast, collaborative environment possible.

Four Apple Mac Studio M4 Max units serve as the main editing clients, supported by several additional clients. Original editing of UHD multi-cam footage from 10 or more cameras runs over 10G to the TS-h1290FX, while smaller multi-cam and proxy editing runs over 10G to the TVS-h874T. On location, a MacBook Pro connects to the TBS-574TX over Thunderbolt, letting the team edit and back up multiple projects simultaneously in the field.

Each unit has a defined role: the TS-h1290FX for original editing and mastering, the TVS-h874T for rough-cut production, the TL-D800C for project backup and archiving, and the TBS-574TX as a mobile unit carried to external shoots. Installation and initial configuration were handled by staff with the necessary expertise; after completing the NAS setup, network connection, storage configuration, and workspace migration, the team transferred its existing project data and stood up a stable new production environment in a relatively short time.

Benefits

The All-Flash performance of the TS-h1290FX lets the studio process a wide range of high-bitrate formats — UHD 59.94fps All-Intra, RAW (X-OCN, R3D, BRAW), and ProRes 422 HQ — reliably and in real time. Even with four Mac Studio units editing and color grading simultaneously, including DaVinci Resolve's demanding, enhanced Noise Reduction, the system sustains high read/write performance, so editors collaborate without delays.

A hybrid workflow that combines Thunderbolt and network connectivity has raised efficiency on a per-project basis, while the backup and archive system built on the TVS-h874T and TL-D800C has significantly strengthened both data reliability and operational efficiency.

Looking ahead, Relive Studio plans to expand into even higher-resolution RAW production and large-scale multi-cam projects such as K-POP auditions. For productions built around cinema cameras like the Sony Venice 2, Burano, RED Raptor, Komodo X, and Blackmagic Immersive, the QNAP environment offers the scalability to absorb growing data volumes and concurrent workloads — and an integrated production, backup, and archive workflow on which to keep running a stable content-production operation.
